On the patients with essential hypertension who attended the Hypertension Center of hhe 1st Tokyo National Hospital in the period of three years and six months from May 1955 to December 1958, the author performed measurement of serum total cholesterol with a varied Bloor's method, and analyzed statistically variations relative to seasons, ages and sexes.
1) The serum total cholesterol level was lowest in summer and highest in winter.
2) Serum total cholesterol level of the patients with essential hypertension demonstrated distinct increase according to patient's ages in both sexes, The Tincrease was notably higher in females of advanced age than in males.
