Caloric Pattern Testの実験的検討

In 1957 my co-worker Okamoto has reported “Studies on caloric test for the purpose of the diagnosis of vestibular lesion”, which was revealing caloric pattern test, a new method of caloric test devised by Ino and Okamoto and was developed from Z test.
For the purpose of investigating the value of this test, the author carried out the experiment which was giving injury to the rabbits (cerebrum and cerebellum) and labyrinth and studied comparatively the caloric pattern test pre and post the injury. Determining an adequate procedure of the caloric test, the author obtained the following results. Head position: 30 degree backward, time of irrigation: 10″ or 20″, temperature of irrigation: 10°C or 20°C, quantity of irrigation: 5cc or 20cc.
The author studied to find a similar condition of clinical caloric pattern test and successed to obtain the result. It was found that the most adequate method for caloric pattern test of rabbits was to irrigate 10°C water for 5″-10″ under the normal head position and keep the same head position for about 10″.Then changing the head position and keep it 2″ respectively in .
I head position (30 degree backward of lateral semicircular canal), II head position (60 degree backward of lateral semicircular canal) and III head position (90 degree backward of lateral semicircular canal).
When the cerebrum (frontal, parietal and temporal lobe) was injured, the duration of nystagmus was in general prolonged, but the caloric pattern showed I type (normal type). When the cerebellum (hemisphere, vermin, cortex, paraflocculus) was injured, the caloric pattern showed III type (central type).
These experiments showed that the localization of vestibular lesions are more easily diagnosed by the examination of D. P. and the results of caloric pattern test.
The so-called vestibular recruitment phenomenon, which can be recognized by us from the angle of the clinical caloric pattern test, are showed by the experiment of injuring the peripheral vestibular organ.
