Abstract
Forty-four patients with muscular dystrophy (39 with Duchenne type, 3 with limb-girdle, 2 with ocular myopathy) were divided into mild group (functional ability I—1-5), moderate group (functional ability II—6-8) and severe group (functional ability II—8-III-10). Moreover, each group was divided into the contrast group and administered group which were received Inosie F, Myoactin C, VB12 (Coenzyme) and Erythromycin. Each drug was given to all patients of administered groups for six months except Erythromycin (for 3 months). Before commencement of administration and subsequently at monthly intervals during six months, the serum activities of CPK, aldolase, LDH, GPT and GOT, the excretion of creatine and creatinine in urine, the muscle strength of the flexors of extremities and grasp power were measured in each case. VB12 administration group showed different course as compared with the contrast group in CPK, creatine index and creatinine index, and moreover the increase of each muscle strength were observed than the contrast group.
From the above mentioned result, it may be concluded that the administration of VB12 improved the clinical symptome in patients with progressive muscular dystrophy. Moreover, we discussed the methods of the determination of the indirect effect of administration of drugs on progressive muscular dystrophy.
