We have studied 33 autopsy cases of livercirrhosis at Konodai National Hospital, and obtained following results:
1. According to classification of Prof. Miyake, our cases are classified as next, : 4 cases of A, 12 cases of A', 2 cases of B, 6 cases of B', 5 cases of hepatom accompanied with B type of cirrhosis and 4 cases of fibrosis.
2. Esophageal varices are found in 12 cases (A: 2 cases, A': 5 cases B: 3 cases, hepatom: 1 case) and hemorrhage from these varices are confirmed in 7 cases (A': 5, B': 2).
3. We could find esophagitits in all these hemorrhagic cases and 2 of these esophagitic changes are severe, but another 5 are slight and observed only microscopically. Furthermore we could find another 5 cases of severe esophagitic change also in non-hemorrhagic cases. But we could not confirm any correlation between these severe esophagitic changes and use of steroids or of new diuretics, such as derivatives of chlorothiazide, etc.
4. In 8 cases of gastric erosion (A:1, A':3, B':2, hepatom: 2) which were found in necropsy, bleeding has been confirmed in 7 cases and these bleedings became the direct cause of death in 5 cases. We could not find any correlation between these erosions and use of steroids or of new diuretics.
5. In all 2 cases of gastric ulcer (B:1, B':1) which were treated with steroids, bleeding are found as the direct cause of death.
6. It must be emphasized that 8 cases of portal vein thrombosis (A:1, B:1, B':3, hepatom: 3) were found in our 33 cases, because of high frequency of these changes in comparison with another reports.
