We observed alteration of the behavior of coagulation factors during menstrual cycle by examination of nine kinds of test every week upon 12 healthy single females. At the same time we examined 5 healthy males in same way as a cotrast.
The items of test are platelet count, bleeding time, coagulation time, capillary fragility (negative pressure), clot retraction, prothrombin time, recalcification time, partial thromboplastin time and serum fibrinogen.
We obtained the following results;
After period, there are definite increase of platelet count, prolongation of bleeding time, slight prolongation of recalcification time and prothrombin time. During period, coagulation time is shortened slightly and clot retraction became stable as 40∼50%. There is temporal decrease of capillary resistence after period, partial thromboplastin time much prolonged in one to two weeks after period. Serum fibrinogen increased slightly after period.
The alteration of the behavior of coagulation factors during menstmal cycle are supposed to be affected by the age, marriage, delivery, amount of bleeding at period and length of menstrual cycle, because of which we should interpret results in consideration of the alteration during menstrual cycle in laboratory study.
