In the treatment of patients with severe chronic bronchial asthma, administration of a large dose of adrenocortico-steroid hormon is necessary along with improvement of general status and oxygen supplement.
For the gradual decrease in dose and withdrawal of cortico-steroid, usefulness of the intra-muscular injection of triamcinolone acetonide has been recognized. We have used this drug in 13 patients, and we found positive effect and insignificant side effect. This appeared to be especially effective for the reduction in the total dose of steroid and its withdrawal.
