A fundamental study on the infiltration of molten slaps into refractories has been carried out in combination with four kinds of synthetic slags and two kinds of refractory capillaries. The results reveal that the conventional analysis is useless, so that they are discussed from the viewpoints of the time-dependent variations in the capillary dimensions and the physical properties of the slags due to the slagging reaction.
