A mathematical model for estimating the viscosities of multi-component metallic and ionic melts at high temperatures is presented. The reliability of the model in extrapolating the viscosity data as a function of temperature and composition has been demonstrated in the case of some metallic and slag systems. A correlation between the Gibbs energy of activation for viscosities and the Gibbs energy of mixing in the case of binary metallic systems is described. Preliminary results of the experimental measurements of viscosities of the system CaO-FeO-SiO2 are presented.
