On-Demand Print, POD, is not defined by the products' category, but is defined as a type of service to provide the print products on an as-needed basis. It is possible to provide this service using the standard existing presses.
What about technology? HP and XEIKON are the major manufacturers of full color no-plate digital printers. Xerox, Konica Minolta and Kodak newly entered into the market.
What about the market? I used to forecast that the POD market grows 50% every year. Recently, it slows down to 40% growth. However, this rate is still higher than the U.S.A's growth rate of 20%, and the Europe's 21%. The market size this year is about 97.4billion yen. It will be 270 billion yen in 2007. A huge market is expected to appear. The suppliers to this market will be categorized as Print shops, Plate making companies, Printing companies and in-house printing sections.
