Technology Trends of Planetarium and New Space Experience 2021

Abstract

In October, 2021, the newest planetarium theater “MANTEN Nagoya” by the first LED (light emitting diode) dome display in Japan, which is produced directly by Konica Minolta Planetarium Co. Ltd., is opened near the new shopping center “AEONMALL Nagoya Nortitake Garden”. “MANTEN Nagoya” is the 4^ththeater following Ikebukuro, Oshiage and Yurakucho in Tokyo.

In this paper, explaning the history of planetarium, which was born in 1923 and celebrates near 100 years. Then, introducing the development of digitalization accompanying the progress of video technology, and the trends in the immersive dome experience that is more entertaining, as well as traditional planetarium through our products and the directly produced planetarium theaters.
