Sustainable Packaging in Paper Materials

Abstract

The Oji Group is developing a new SILBIO series of packaging paper-based materials that can be substitutes for disposable plastic films for packaging, as the movement to reduce plastics is rapidly spreading on a global scale, stemming from the issue of marine waste. SILBIO Series consists of four lineups that differ in concept : barrier paper with gas barrier properties, “SILBIO BARRIER”, translucent barrier paper with content visibility in addition to gas barrier, “SILBIO CLEAR”, aluminum vapor deposition paper with light shielding and high gas barrier properties similar to those of aluminum vapor deposition film, “SILBIO ALBA”, heat sealing paper with emphasis on heat sealability, and so on. Although many problems still remain to be solved in order to popularize paper materials as packaging materials, it is hoped that SILBIO series will contribute to the solution of global environmental problems even a little.
