Recently, high spead printing of processed information by electronic computer systems and other information processing systems has been strongly wanted for.
Up to date, mechanical printers have been employed, but it is now considersed that its printing speed has already reached its Iimit, and that printers set limits to the overall information processing speed.
Therefor, electronic printinig methods are widely under development, one of which is the electrostatic printing method and noticed because of its simplicity and its high speed printing, but according to conventional methods, only one copy can be got on special paper, that is to say, electrostatic recording paper. This is a great defect because electronic computer systems used for general business are reguired to obtain many copies.
We have developed an electrostatic printer by the powder-image transfer method, by means of which 5 copies can be obtained on normal paper at one time.
The paper moves at a constant speed of 700 mm/sec., permitting a printing speed of 9000 lines/min., and each line contains 130 characters. 128 kinds of characters can be printed Each character is printed by a 5×7 matrix pattern of small round spots.
