Abstract
This paper is a study about discussion activities through translation of picture books for learning Japanese. In this study, I analyzed the discussion on translating the Japanese picture book “Asa ni natta node mado wo akemasu yo (You’ll open the window because it was hemp)” into Korean by Korean students who are majoring in Japanese. As a result, 20 items were discussed, of which 10 consensus was formed. And 2 out of the 10 cases where agreement was formed were new ideas created by discussion. In these discussion activities, students learn languages using their existing linguistic knowledge and imagination. Picture books are composed of simple words and picture, so learners can easily grasp the context or can share images with classmates. Such a feature of the picture books will enhance the quality of collaborative learning through the discussion activities.
