Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of four kinds of yoga exercises on grip strength, a good index of the functioning of a living body. The subject was a male with four years of yoga experience. The following four kinds of exercises were chosen:uddiyana-bandha, kapala-bhati, asana and sukha-purvaka-pranayama. Each exercise or combinations of them were performed, and grip strength was measured before and after the exercises. Grip strength was significantly greater by 2.80-4.06 kgf after the exercises than before them. The increases in grip strength were not the same for each of the four kinds of exercises when performed separately, and combinations of them did not increase grip strength any more than the individual exercises did.
