Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the objective effects of alcohol to sleep in daily life. We obtained 43 and 37 night sleep data from two participants by sheet-shaped body vibrometer (SBV). We evaluated parameters measured by SBV, containing 9 sleep variables and 3 physiological indices (activity score, respiratory rate, heart rate). As a result, drinking alcohol caused significantly increased respiratory rate and heart rate for both of participants, and also caused significantly delayed bedtime or increased WASO (wake time after sleep onset) in each participants. This study revealed that it is enable to detect sleep worsening effect of drinking alcohol based on several tens of measurements of sleep variables and physiological indices in daily life. In addition, it is suggested that evaluation based on sleep variables underestimate the effect of drinking, and it seems useful to evaluate respiratory rate and heart rate in sleep time.
