Current status of phase-change optical disk, especially those technologies adopted in DVD-RAM disk are summarized. They are high numerical aperture optics with 650nm laser diode, mark edge recording technology and land/groove recording one. Future technologies for increasing physical recording capacity are also introduced and it is expected that more than 15GB capacity on 120mm disk will come early in the next century.
