Low bit-rate video coding technology such as H.263 or MPEG-4 has been developed, and it has been implemented into Internet video communication software. Some products recently released, however, have not reached at the level due to requirements which correspond to real-time interactive communication. In this paper these requirements are explained, and solutions for real-time communication are studied.
