To mark the commencement of 17-hour per day "Hi Vision" HDTV broadcasts, NHK produced a special program featuring autumn in the Champ-Elysee in Paris, and telecast it live in Japan using HDTV satellite transmission technology. Japan's KDD and France Telecom helped establish the route to Japan, the first HDTV satellite 2 HOP transmission. The satellite transmission technology utilized digital video compression coding technology and coded modulation scheme to successfully expand the range of live HDTV relay coverage. In the actual relay transmission, we made full use of the newly developed wireless equipment for program production, including the HDTV wireless camera system, 42GHz HDTV-FPU and optical HDTV-FPU. The mobility of this system compares favorably with that of the NTSC system.
