The 5C DTCP defines a cryptographic protocol for protecting audio/video entertainment content from unauthorized copying, intercempting, and tampering as it traverses digital transmission mechanisms such as the IEEE 1394-1995 high-performance serial bus. Only legitimate entertainment content delivered to a source device via another approved copy protection system will be protected by this copy protection system. The 5C DTCP has been developed by Hitachi, Ltd., Intel Corporation, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., Sony Corporation, and Toshiba Corporation (the "5C"), and proposed to industries such as Contents Provider, Consumer Electronics and Information Technology.
