Polymer stabilized cholesteric texture(PSCT) materials for normal-mode operating were prepared by forming perpendicular polymer networks in cholesteric liquid crystals. The voltage-transmittance characteristics were investigated and the polymer networks were found to be able to control the hysteresis in cholesteric-nematic phase transition. We have developed a model and explained the effect of polymer on the hysteresis well. The effects of operating temperature, liquid crystal pitch and variation speed of applied voltage on hysteresis in PSCT normal-mode materials have also been investigated in this paper.
