Abstract
"Nisseki LC film" is an optical compensator that consists of liquid crystalline polymer film aligned in twisted-nematic orientation. In this study, the advantages of "Nisseki LC film" were examined by comparing the optical performance of reflective NW-STN-LCDs using a "Nisseki LC film" and a polycarbonate film. It has been confirmed that optimization of the twist angle as well as the retardation of the "Nisseki LC film" realizes high contrast ratio of reflective NW-STN-LCD. Hence the optimizing procedure of the performance of the display becomes more flexible, and it is possible to improve the luminance and the achromaticity while keeping the advantage of the contrast ratio.
