Abstract
This paper presents performance comparison parameters for hierarchical storage management systems(HSMS)for video retrieval systems. These parameters are average access time and average operating time. The performance of the two prototype system with HSMS. one with optical disk and HDD and the other with magnetic tape and HDD are evaluated with these parameters. The results show that HSMS with optical disk has shorter average access time and average operating time, when using MPEG-4 compression format for reference video with code rate of 500kbps.
