With the demand of the HDD having larger capacities, the physical spacing between the magnetic recording head and magnetic recording disk needs to be decreased. This requires that the surface roughness of the magnetic recording disk must be decreased. Increased stiction due to disk flatness will cause the failure of HDI. The magnetic recording head with DLC pad, which makes less stiction and friction, was studied for developing reliable HDI. Stiction and friction during CSS were measured for the optimization purpose. The results show that the magnetic recording head, which has optimized ABS and optimized DLC pads, performed good anti-stiction capability and enough CSS reliability at 15nm FH on the LZT media having low height bump.
