Abstract
Photostability of Liquid Crystal (LC) materials and alignment layer is very important in affecting the life time of the LC devices. In this report, the photo degradation of LC cell has been investigated by the blue-violet (403nm) laser beam irradiation. The laser beam was focused on LC cells with homogeneous, homeotropic, twisted nematic and hybride orientation. The degradation of the TN cell started earliest in all cells, since azimuthal anchoring strength might reduce. The photo stability did not change when the cell is irradiated under the voltage application.
