Abstract
High dynamic range (HDR) programme production trials being used 4K pixel format cameras and monitors having S-log3 nonlinear transfer function have been studied. Shootings at the beach side locations under strong sunshine where the scene luminance dynamic range is wide enough that the standard dynamic range (SDR) equipment had never captured or displayed, and in other situations as the studio live production under luminous environment and the sports stadium production under bright sunlight have been experimented. The video signal level controls on-site and the luminance grading operations in the post-production process for each two HDR options, Hybrid-Log Gamma (HLG) specified in ARIB STD and Perceptual Quantizer (PQ) in SMPTE STD, for the future possible broadcasting signal format have been examined. The results of studies suggests that the rendering intent of HDR images shot under the higher scene luminance level have been set to the higher luminance level than the SDR images according to the requirement of reality on the screen.
