The aim of this paper is firstly to determine and find out the methods of phraseology translation
used in Japanese - Mongolian translation. Secondly, the paper tries to define the main principles of
all the methods of phraseology translation. The analyses show that four translation methods –
literal translation, translation with corresponding phrases, analogical translation and the
explanatory translation are the main methods used in Japanese – Mongolian phraseology
translation. In addition, the author found one possible variation: the combination of literal and
explanatory translation methods. It was revealed that 1) literal translation and 2) translation with
corresponding phrases show syntactica and componential equivalency and 3) analogical method
and 4) explanatory method involve pragmatic equivalency. The hierarchical relations of the four
methods of phraseology translation are shown to be consistent with the hyerarchical relations of
translation in general.
