Abstract

Acute onset of lower abdominal pain is a common symptom of various disorders affecting organs such as those of the digestive, urinary, and gynecologic systems. We encountered a 14-year-old boy with an apophyseal avulsion fracture of the anterior superior iliac spine, caused by running. Pelvic apophyseal avulsion fractures are relatively rare, but diagnosis in this case was made based on severe pain arising immediately after physical activity. In these cases, it is important to perform physical examinations and radiography or computed tomography of the pelvic bones and to include apophyseal avulsion fractures of the ilium in the differential diagnosis.
