Abstract

A female in her 70's who stabbed her own abdomen with an awl was taken to our emergency department having the awl stabbed. Emergency surgery was performed to remove the awl and repair organ damage. The awl penetrated the portal vein (PV), the PV was repaired without massive hemorrhage. In the treatment of abdominal stab cases, it is regarded as a standard that a wounded device should not be removed. We experienced a case of abdominal stab that could be saved without bleeding from the PV, because the patient was transported without removing the wounded device.
