Study on Evaluating Method for Professional Baseball Pitchers

Abstract

Player's contract renewal is done in the professional baseball field at the off-season of every year. However, the problem that the contract renewal is not smoothly done because the evaluation of the player and the evaluation of the baseball team are different occurs. In this study, all pitchers were properly evaluated by using calculating the efficiency value and Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) from the evaluation item originally set. We propose the system that presumes pitchers' annual salary of the next contact year from their DEA efficiency value of this contact year and their annual salary. As a result, we became possible to calculate their annual salaries of next year in high accuracy.
