Abstract
This report details a case where an elderly patient developed oral hypofunction 3.5 years postplacement, demonstrating that prosthetic success does not preclude the later onset of functional decline.Oral hypofunction screening identified five contributing factors: poor oral hygiene, dry mouth, reducedmasticatory force, impaired tongue/lip motility, and decreased tongue pressure. The patient wasformally diagnosed with oral hypofunction, prompting the implementation of a targeted oral-functionalmanagement plan that included specific tongue pressure profile training. Following the intervention, thepatient exhibited recovery in the reduced tongue pressure. A one-year follow-up confirmed the successfuloutcome, showing improvement in the oral function test values.
