Abstract
【Objective】BOPT(Biologically Oriented Preparation Technique), which involves verticalshaping beyond the CEJ, setting the margin on the root surface, and achieving intentional creepingof the gingiva, offers significant advantages for esthetic restorations. It was reported as a novel crownshaping technique introduced in 2013. 【Materials and Methods】 Case 1: A 58-year-old female patientpresented with esthetic concerns. BOPT was performed on teeth exhibiting black margins due togingival recession to induce coronal migration of the gingival margin, promoting intentional creeping.Additionally, for areas with prominent black triangles, interproximal papilla reconstruction usingconnective tissue from the maxillary tuberosity was performed. After achieving aesthetic harmonywith a provisional restoration, the final restoration was completed. Case 2: A 36-year-old womanpresented with gingival recession around an anterior bridge. Due to significant gingival recessionfollowing flap surgery performed by the previous dentist, BOPT was performed on the bridgeabutment teeth to promote coronal gingival migration. Furthermore, in the pontic area, the formationof an ovate pontic shape using a provisional restoration established good continuity of gingivalmorphology, allowing for final restoration. 【Results】In both cases, esthetic soft tissue managementwas achievable with minimal intervention. Patient satisfaction was high, and long-term estheticallyfavorable outcomes were obtained. 【Conclusion】BOPT can increase relative gingival thickness and,by intentionally inducing soft tissue remodeling, achieve long-term gingival stability. Therefore, it is ahighly useful technique for esthetic restorations.
