Anatomy of the temporomandibular joint to have an important role in understanding masticatory system and diseases. Although many articles have been reported about the temporomandibular joint anatomy, there is a few reports describing the relations between basic anatomy and clinical conditions. We reviewed current articles about temporomandibular joint anatomy, aimed for clarifying the relations between basic and clinical findings.
Part 3:
We reviewed about morphology and biochemistry of the condylar cartilage of temporomandibular joint. It was difficult to determine the histological classification of this cartilage, and there were differences between aging, location and species. Only difference between the condylar cartilage and hyaline cartilage was existing of elastic fibers.
