The process of the development in idea of “coaching” was investigated in this study. The origin of the word “coaching” is coaches, which was done in Kocs, a town in Hungary. Today, the word is defined as “ways of supporting clients for achieving self-actualization through conversations.” Books written by Gallway and Leonard, during the process of developing the above concept are cited. Moreover, the development of coaching in Japan is examined based on the database of the National Diet Library. It is suggested that the image of coaches related to fields of sports that was conducted up to the 1980s, might have affected the image of coaching in Japan. However, coaching is also conducted in the field of education. Furthermore, the perspective of “native coaches,” which is indicated by reviewing the history of coaching, suggests the possibility of qualitatively and quantitatively examining “differences in children’s thinking and expressive ability, depending on the presence of a native coach.”
