Almost 18 years have passed since non-profitable activities promotion law (Commonly known as ‘NPO Law’) *1 was enforced on December 1, 1998 (Approved on March 19, 1998). As of March 2016, approximately 50,000 organizations are authorized as incorporated NPO. NPO holds huge social significance as the third-sector corporation, tackling those issues which are considered unattainable by public corporations run by local and central governments -the first sector or other non-governmental companies -the second sector. However, except only a few NPOs, most of them face major difficulty in management and operation due to lack of resources such as human resources or funding. As not many NPOs can streamline compensation system and hire employees, most of them depend on volunteer workers (both little-paid and non-paid). It is extremely hard to sustain resource of the volunteer especially for those NPOs of patient group. Their challenge is how to maintain motivation of the volunteer in line with progress of their illness because their incentive is “to help themselves challenge issues from illness and its related events”. This paper is to report through my hands-on experience how coaching and communication skill can work for management of NPO and alleviation of their problem.
