Studies concerning standardization of structural description of media have rapidly progressed since the middle of '90s in the world of museums, libraries, archives and network resources. In this paper among such studies, CRM (Conceptual Reference Model) of CIDOC (International Committee for DOCumentation), which is a standard of the world of museums, is focused. It is regarded as a semantic ‘glue’ for heterogeneous cultural heritage documentation systems and as a domain ontology. It analyzes and defines entities which are needed for collection documentation in detail by using a object oriented model. Its scope is very wide; from the world of museums, of course including art museums, to the world of libraries, archives and network resources. It is questionable whether CRM will practically work as a semantic ‘glue’ or not. But the author believes it will make some advances in collection documentation studies.
