Abstract
The nineteenth century in France, which starts with the advent of Napoleon, was “le siècle des dictionnaires”. Moreover, dictionaries of art by countries were published by editors, such as GABET, BERRIER, and AUVRAY. This was also the last era in which the dictionaries were created through compiling the work of individual editors. This is a comparative and analytical study, using as an example one editor and his dictionary, specifically the treatment of neoclassicist pictures.
