Abstract
The purpose of this study is to select commercial picture books for learning of 「home life and family」 of home economics in elementary school and clarify the points of selection. First of all, nine books were extracted from 100 books depicting families. It is a survey picture book containing the contents of the course of study. Using these picture books, we investigated on the reading of picture books for university students and elementary school students. As a result of the analysis, three books highly valued from both groups were selected as appropriate teaching materials. In addition, we investigated the reason for the picture book in which there was a shift in reading of both groups. Three points for selecting a picture book were suggested. 1)Learning contents being expressed in a plain episode. 2) The feelings of the characters and the scene setting are clearly depicted by a pictures and words. 3) Learning terms and concepts are expressed by sentences.
