An investigation of the catalytic reombination of hydrogen and oxygen is carried out in order to obtain reaction rate data for the preliminary design and feasibility studies of the recombiners to be used in the off-gas system of boiling water reactor.
A catalytic reaction rate equation on the basis of the idea of a non-dimensional "Diffusion Control Factor η" defined as the ratio of mass transfer coefficient kf gas film kf to apparent reaction rate constant was studied in this report. The "η" factor of metallized alumina spheres or pellets is expressed as a function of kf, "effective chemical reaction rate constant at outer surface of catalyst, K" and "effective reaction rate constant coming from diffusion in catalyst pores and chemicl reaction at inner surface of catalyst,
The reaction rate equation was confirmed experimentally under the condition of the constant temperature over the catalyst bed, and "K" constants of the alumina supported palladium catalysts were determined.
