A summary review is presented on the activities of the "Special Committee on Nuclear MHD Power Generation" during the two years from its establishment in October 1965 to September 1967. The subjects include MHD plasma diagnostics, problems in generator channels, generators utilizing nonequilibrium ionization, experiments with shock tubes, materials for the closed cycle technology, liquid metal MHD generators, and the prospects for nuclear-powered MHD power plants.
It is emphasized that further studies are called for covering the details of these subjects, especially for a better understanding of the basic phenomena of nonequilibrium MHD plasmas and related technology, in order to further promote progress in the activities in this field in Japan.
