“Workcation” is a newly made-up word that blends “work” and “vacation”, and has recently considered as a new way of working. The reason behind why this word is standing out is a direct result of work style reforms, an increasing number of companies with telecommuters, and the promotion of regional revitalization, etc. There are four main players; (1) worker (2) company (3) destination, and (4) related businesses, who seemed to be cohabiting but living in different world due to the lack of clear definition for this new word. Moreover, this situation may prevent the “Workcation” system from accelerating further.
Hence, this paper classifies and redefines‘ workcation', and clarifies expectations and issues for each stakeholder. In addition, the future direction of Japanese-style ‘workcation' will be discussed.
