Abstract
One of the goals of history education is to develop students' multiple historical perception. The class learned “by” history, in which students think about historical events as the subject matter, can promote diversification and deepening of students' historical perception through the use of “Structured Questions Setting,” and the consideration of “Essential Questions.” This paper introduces a class practice that examined the differences in perceptions of Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, and Mongolians regarding the Manchukuo slogan “Five Races Under One Union.” As in this practice, extensive use of historical materials and thinking based on the information that can be read can compensate for a lack of knowledge. In addition, the use of a “Structured Questions Setting” can help students think logically. Through the class learned “by” history, students will be able to manipulate the concretization and abstraction of information at will, and will be able to think of solutions to problems in contemporary society. It will also lead to the realization of historical reconciliation with neighboring countries.
