Abstract
Although there are many studies on guide dogs for the persons who are blind, there have been few or no studies and literature on toilet for guide dogs. The authors conducted a questionnaire survey on the Japan Guide-dog Association about presently used methods for treating and disposing of dog feces and urine and demands for dog toilets to understand presently available facilities and the surrounding environment, location, access and other data of dog toilet aiming to use the data for toilet construction. Toilet for guide dogs was found to be highly demanded especially at public institutions. Many respondents demanded for dog toilet to be constructed by public lavatories and be equipped with washstands for washing hands, garbage boxes, voice guides and stands for placing their belongings rather than independent toilets for guide dogs, which may attract too much attention.
