Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS) is a useful technique to measure elastic wave velocity, especially for tiny and opaque samples at extreme conditions. We performed IXS measurements on (Mg,Fe)SiO3 perovskite and CaIrO3 post-perovskite to try to understand the elastic anisotropies and heterogeneity of the lower mantle in terms of the single crystal elasticity.
