Occurrence and properties of fibrous tourmaline; discovery of nanofiber tourmaline

Abstract

Morphology and formation process of fibrous tourmaline were uncertain. We investigated the occurrences and mineralogical properties of fibrous tourmaline from Japan. The textures of fibrous termination tourmaline show the dissolution of termination and recrystallization; epitaxially crystallization of fibrous tourmaline. Fine hair-like tourmaline from Tanakamiyama has significant features; that is, numerous curved nanofibers 100 nm in diameter and 50 μm in length.
