A 71-year-old female underwent marginal mandibulectomy in the left premolar and molar area, and flap reconstruction due to squamous cell carcinoma. She had used a pair of removable partial dentures （RPDs） before the surgical intervention and the RPDs were repaired in two days after visiting our department. Treatment for remaining teeth was started four months after discharge from the hospital, and the flap became stable after the treatment. A pair of RPDs was fabricated by pressure impression. At one year after delivery of the RPDs, she showed high scores of masticatory function and maximum occlusal force. The oral functions and esthetics were improved and maintained during a 4-year observation period.
This case demonstrates that treatment for remaining teeth, stability of flap and appropriate impression contributed to the stability of a prosthesis for defective jaw.
