Objective: This study aimed to outline the effectiveness and problems of Learning Management System (LMS) use from previous Japanese domestic and international studies for the promotion of LMS use in basic nursing education.
Methods: This scoping review was conducted based on JBI Manual For Evidence Synthesis: Scoping Reviews 2020. CiNii and JDream III were searched, and original articles in Japanese and English published from 2013 to 2022 corresponding to the set PCC (Population, Concept, Context) were targeted. Descriptions indicating the effect and problem of using LMS were extracted from the selected literature and were coded and categorized.
Results: Thirty references were included. The extracted descriptions were coded and classified into six categories, such as “ubiquitous learning” and “promotion of self-learning” for effectiveness. Fourteen categories, including “lack of preparation of teachers” and “lack of technical support” were identified for problems.
Conclusion: The effectiveness and problems of using LMS were outlined. Suggestions were made to enhance consideration of implementation and use and provide necessary support.
