The spread of COVID-19 has had profound and wide-ranging impacts, affecting individuals and society as a whole. In response to these unprecedented challenges, the Japan Academy of Nursing Science (JANS) established the COVID-19 Nursing Research Countermeasures Committee as a temporary body. The committee’s mission was to identify and implement measures that the Academy should take in a society transformed by the pandemic. The committee’s primary activities included the following three initiatives: 1) conducting surveys on the impact of COVID-19 on the research activities of JANS members and the support they require from the Academy; 2) implementing an Academy-led collaborative research project aimed at performing secondary analyses of the collected survey data and producing academic papers; and 3) enabling the secondary use of anonymized individual-level data obtained through the surveys for broader use. In order to preserve the activities conducted by the committee and their findings for future generations, this paper provides an overview of the committee’s activities mentioned above. Furthermore, it discusses insights into promoting nursing research and science in a post-COVID-19 society.
