Abstract
The authors verify the effects of aspect ratio (the ratio of beam width to depth) on the CFS reinforcing effect and the failure mechanism in the present paper, through a series of tests on reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with the carbon fiber sheet (CFS) under the static load. (1)Load-carrying capacities of specimens reinforced with the CFS for Types I. II and III were 1.15 to 1.45 times higher than those of specimens without CFS. (2)They have proposed to introduce a kind of correction factor for the strengthening effect based on the relationship between the load and the strain obtained in the present, thereby making it possible to evaluate the effects of the aspect ratio on the CFS reinforcement, and the ideal thus have shown to be obtained theoretical load-carrying capacity equations, too.
