Abstract
This paper investigated the characteristics of higher mode supersonic flutters in structural optimization, because the higher mode flutters in the structural optimization for improving the critical dynamic pressure of flutters make global optimization difficult. A plate wing model was numerically demonstrated to apply structural optimization algorithms to examine the detailed properties of higher mode flutters. The root loci of eigenvalues versus dynamic pressure at specific iterations were used to consider the flutter characteristics. As a result, two cases of coupling behavior in eigenvalues were observed as the jump phenomenon of flutter modes. One is the case given by the new degeneration in flutter modes. The other is the case given by the degeneration in higher flutter modes without generating a new one.
