The porosity of a reservoir rock is a very important factor in gas and/or oil reservoir analysis.
This paper describes a simple and accurate method of determining the porosity in the laboratory. This new method which measures porosity and permeability at the same time has many good points, that is, various permeabilities and desities of the sample, rock porosity under wetting condition, and fluid saturation in original state can be determined.
The results on several sandstones and two tuffs are given, and the sandstone's data obtained by this method appear to agree with those estimated from formation resistivity factor measurements.
